Due to the nature of vintage clothing we will not accept returns for these items.
Vintage clothing is sold as found. We always recommend a dry clean freshen up or hand wash before wearing. We recommend that you only dry clean most vintage items, especially those from the 40s and 50s where fabric content tags were not present.
Vintage clothing is up to and over 70 years old - please do not expect as new condition even on deadstock items.
Please note that vintage clothing sizing was very different to our sizes today. Due to this we will only provide measurements of the garments (we do not guess sizing). We are more than happy to assist with providing information on how you can best measure yourself up to determine correct fit.
Vintage sizing terminology also differs from what we associated it with today:
Vintage Small: Waist sizes 24 - 26 inches
Vintage Medium: Waist sizes 27 - 29 inches
Vintage Large: Waist size 30 inches and above
All measurements are taken while garments are laying flat and then doubled. These are the maximum measurements of the garment, please leave the required room for comfortable fit. The best way to see if something will fit is by comparing the measurements to a similar item you already have that fits you well.
Due to small manniquin size please be aware that some items may be pegged back to fit the model.
Most dresses are pictured with a crinoline underneath to bring out the fullness of the skirt - this is not included in the sale.
Please note that it was typical of the 40s 50s eras to have raw seaming on the inside of the clothing - it was either straight cut or pinked (no over-locking and very rarely finished with ribbon or binding). This means that there will be typical wear to these areas on the inside of the clothing e.g. threads and fraying. This does not affect the item.
All vintage clothing is sold as is. We thoroughly check all our vintage items for any issues and quality. We pride ourselves on the quality of our 40s, 50s and 60s items and go through a strict quality inspection process on all of these items and we document any noted flaws and issues. Major things we always inspect are zipper stability and material strength.
This gift voucher is only good for a single transaction; any remaining amount is not exchangeable with cash or another voucher and will be automatically forfeited.
Any additional cost exceeding the value of this voucher will be paid by the redeemer.
This gift voucher will be considered null and void without the expiry date, seal and other authentication signs or if tampered.
This gift voucher will not be replaced when lost, damaged or stolen.
This voucher is valid only at Word from the Bird Ballarat.
In the event of any dispute, the decision from Word from the Bird is final.
Word from the Bird reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions without prior notice.
Voucher validation is required by authorized person only.
Our policy lasts 7 days. If 7 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.
Due to the nature of vintage clothing, we do not accept returns on any of our authentic vintage clothing range.
Additional non-returnable items:
To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase.
Please do not send your purchase back to the manufacturer.
There are certain situations where we may reject your refund request or only offer you a partial refund:
Any item not in its original condition, is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error
Any item that is returned more than 7 days after delivery
Refunds (if applicable)
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund.
If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within 3 business days.
Late or missing refunds (if applicable)
If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again.
Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted.
Next contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted.

Sale items (if applicable)
Only regular priced items may be refunded, unfortunately sale items cannot be refunded.
Exchanges (if applicable)
We only replace items if they are defective or damaged. If you need to exchange it for the same item, send us an email at email@example.com
If the item was marked as a gift when purchased and shipped directly to you, you’ll receive a gift credit for the value of your return. Once the returned item is received, a gift certificate will be mailed to you.
If the item wasn’t marked as a gift when purchased, or the gift giver had the order shipped to themselves to give to you later, we will send a refund to the gift giver and he will find out about your return.
Once we have accepted your return request we will provide you with the return address. information.
You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund.
Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary.
If you are shipping an item over $75, you should consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance. We don’t guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
